Villiger Brings Its TAA Exclusive Home: The 2026 Is Rolled in Its Own Esteli Factory

After a year away and five editions made in five outside factories, Villiger returns to the TAA Exclusive Series with a box-pressed toro rolled at Villiger de Nicaragua. Five thousand cigars, shipping November 2.

Villiger is returning to the Tobacconists' Association of America Exclusive Series in 2026, and this time the cigar is rolled at home. The Villiger TAA Exclusive 2026 is a box-pressed toro, 6 inches by 52 ring gauge, made at Villiger de Nicaragua, the company's own factory in Esteli. Villiger North America will preview the cigar at the TAA annual convention later this month, and Cigar Aficionado reports that shipping is scheduled to begin on November 2.

Making it in a partner factory borrows credibility. Making it in your own factory claims it.

The blend is an Ecuadorian Habano rosado wrapper over a Mexican San Andres binder and all-Nicaraguan filler. The company describes the intended body as medium to full. The price is 13 dollars per cigar, in boxes of ten, and production is limited to 500 boxes, or 5,000 cigars in total. It is an exclusive in the strict sense: the cigar is made only for TAA retail members.

A series that traveled

The return carries a small history. The Villiger TAA Exclusive Series sat out 2025, and in its earlier run the releases were a tour of other people's factories. Halfwheel's reporting notes that from 2020 through 2024 Villiger used the TAA editions to work with different factories, five factories across three countries in all. For 2026 the Swiss company is instead showing off the rolling at its own Nicaraguan factory, its Esteli plant.

That choice is the story inside the story. A TAA exclusive is a calling card passed hand to hand among the highest-volume retailers in the American trade. Making it in a partner's factory borrows credibility. Making it in your own factory claims it. Villiger de Nicaragua has been the company's statement of intent in Esteli; putting the TAA cigar there turns a limited edition into a factory's proof of work.

The room where it is previewed

The TAA gathers from October 25 to 29 at Casa de Campo in La Romana, in the Dominican Republic. Halfwheel describes the association as a membership group of around 80 retailers and approximately 40 manufacturers, meeting annually to discuss industry issues and to hold its trade show, which works on a group buying format built to secure exclusive deals for its members. Around a dozen manufacturers typically release exclusive cigars under the TAA Exclusive Series Program banner, and participating manufacturers agree to give a portion of proceeds to the organization, a minimum of 50 cents per cigar.

The company it will keep says something about the tier the TAA table occupies. The Gurkha TAA 2026 is a 6 1/2 x 54 toro extra in a dark habano wrapper at the same 13 dollar price, its boxes fitted with humidifiers so they double as humidors, limited to 7,000 cigars. Kristoff's 2026 exclusive is described as a medium-plus profile limited to 10,000 cigars. Against those runs, Villiger's 5,000 cigars are the smallest of the three announced so far, and its box-pressed toro the only one of the group rolled in the maker's own factory rather than a partner's.

Villiger will not be alone on the table. Kristoff and Gurkha have also announced 2026 TAA exclusives, and the selling events at Casa de Campo, including the group-order session known as the Dream Machine, are where the year's allocations are effectively decided. For a 5,000-cigar run, that room is the whole market: if the retailers in it order, there is nothing left to sell anywhere else.

What to watch

Three facts will decide how this release is remembered. The first is pace: a November 2 ship date puts the cigar in TAA stores ahead of the holiday humidor season, the weeks when limited boxes move fastest. The second is scale: 500 boxes is small even by TAA standards, and exclusives at this size tend to live or die as retailer allocations rather than as shelf stock. The third is precedent: if the home-factory edition performs, the traveling years of the series will read in hindsight as apprenticeship, and Esteli will be where the TAA cigar lives from now on.

For smokers, the practical note is simpler. There is no general release and no second tranche announced. The cigar will be at TAA member retailers in November, priced at 13 dollars, and when the 500 boxes are gone the 2026 edition joins the five that came before it: as a record of where Villiger chose to roll that year. This year, for the first time, the answer is its own address in Esteli.
